Inoue Overcomes Early Knockdown

In a thrilling battle that had fans on the edge of their seats, undefeated super bantamweight champion Naoya Inoue overcame an early knockdown to stop Luis Nery in six rounds on Monday, May 6 at the Tokyo Dome in Tokyo, Japan.

Nery, the #1-ranked contender, came out strong and sent Inoue to the canvas with a left hook in the first round. However, Inoue showed his resilience by getting back up and dominating the rest of the fight. He outlanded Nery by a margin of 21-4 in Round 1 and went on to nearly double Nery in total punches, according to CompuBox.

Inoue also showed his power, knocking Nery down in the fourth and fifth rounds. The fight was finally stopped in the sixth round when Inoue landed a devastating left hook that sent Nery crashing to the canvas.

With the victory, Inoue successfully defended his WBC, WBO, IBF, and WBA junior featherweight titles and improved his record to 27-0 (24 KOs). Nery, who was making his first appearance at 118 pounds, falls to 31-1 (24 KOs).
